Adopt-a-Barangay. The Adopt-a-Barangay Project aims to provide sustainable programs and activities geared towards the awareness, empowerment, and development of the residents of the partner communities.

  • In 2002, UB adopted Barangay San Luis Puroks 7 & 8 as part of its Extension and Community Outreach Program until March 2010.
  • On July 29, 2010, UB signed an MOA with Barangay Santo Tomas Proper and Loakan Proper as the newly adopted barangays after achieving a satisfactory performance rating from an impact assessment conducted on the recipients last April 2010.
  • On July 29, 2013, a contract lapsed but a year weaning period was conducted focusing on areas that received weak points based on the results of the yearly outcome assessments.
  • From 2015 to the present, Barangay Lucnab was adopted based on the recommendation f the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), is one if not the most impoverished Barangay. Programs were conducted along with livelihood programs, health, literacy, security and safety, environment, and other socio-economic collaborations, especially with the Indigenous People (IP). A partnership with Barangay Happy Hollow is being eyed for the transition from Barangay Lucnab as its adopted barangay.

The following activities were conducted but not limited to:

  • Gender and Development (GAD)
  • Youth Development
  • Data-based profiling of barangay residents
  • Good governance
  • Medical and Dental services
  • Infrastructure and community landscaping
  • Cooperatives and livelihood projects

Adopt-a-School. The Adopt-A-School was created to help and support public schools with their activities outside the mainstream funding and the national budget in terms of the following:

  • Infrastructure
  • Health and nutrition
  • Teaching skills development
  • Computer and Science lab equipment
  • Learning support (reading, writing, arts)

Beneficiaries of the program were the schools in the adopted barangays. Currently, the activities mentioned are extended to Lindawan Elementary and National High School, and Alejo M. Pacalso Memorial National High School.

Adopt-a-Park. The Adopt-a-Park Project seeks to help in the maintenance of a park aimed at promoting environmental consciousness and protection among the public through:

  • Cleaning and beautification
  • Re-greening
  • Tree planting and weeding
  • Conservation and protection

Beneficiaries of the programs include re-greening, tree planting, and weeding activities at Busol Water Shed, the main water source in Baguio City. Beautification and cleaning of Barangays are also included.

Special Projects. Under the special projects are unprogrammed activities that necessitate volunteer services aligned with the schools’ specialization and expertise. It includes the following:

  • Community Vaccination Program for Covid-19 (from 2020 to 2022)
  • Invitations from LGUs and NGOs for collaboration
  • Relief operations
  • IT training for PNP
  • “Brigada Eskwela” – Back-to-School program
  • Bike for a cause
  • Free legal assistance and services from the School of Law

The UB Gym was used as a venue for the Covid-19 vaccination drive by the City of Baguio from 2020 to early 2022 benefitting more than 300,000 population. UB was also awarded at the national level for this endeavor.

Community extensions such as Relief Operations were done during calamities, while IT training was extended to the members of the Philippine National Police. Recently, a medical-dental mission was conducted in partnership with the Philippine Army.

Special programs such as Brigada Eskwela supported the Department of Education’s (DepEd) call to help impoverished communities by providing armchairs, construction materials, and similar donations for the benefit of the schools, especially for indigenous people or communities.
