The annual research activity at the University of Baguio is designed to serve as a dynamic platform where both professional and student researchers can share their latest discoveries, insights, and advancements. By providing this avenue, the event encourages the exchange of knowledge and best practices, ultimately contributing to the growth and enrichment of various fields of study.
This year’s theme, “UB TRANSCeNDS 004: The University of Baguio Traverses Research Alliance, Networking, and Sharing as it Celebrates Notable Development and Success,” underscores the institution’s commitment to building strong research alliances, fostering meaningful networks, and promoting the open sharing of scholarly work. The theme reflects the university’s recognition of the vital role that collaboration and communication play in achieving academic excellence and societal impact.

Prof. Dr. Diana Elizabeth Waturangi is a highly accomplished academic and researcher with over two decades of experience, currently serving the Dean of the School of Bioscience, Technology, and Innovations at Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia in Jakarta. Her extensive expertise lies in food microbiology, food safety, and the development of innovative methods to control pathogens in both food products and aquaculture environments.
Prof. Waturangi earned her doctoral degree in Microbiology from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB University), which included an academic exchange in Germany. She further enhanced her expertise through postdoctoral research programs at two institutions in the United States: the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Oklahoma State University. Before assuming her current professorial role, she demonstrated significant leadership by serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology at Atma Jaya Catholic University from 2010 to 2017.
Her research is centered on cutting-edge solutions for combating foodborne pathogens and the challenge of antibiotic resistance. She focuses heavily on developing and applying antibiofilm and bacteriophage technologies—which involve using natural viruses to target harmful bacteria—as safe and effective alternatives to traditional treatments and preservatives. She also develops rapid molecular diagnostic methods for detecting pathogens efficiently. Her significant contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous international grants and awards, including being named a major finalist for the 2024 UL Research Institutes – ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women for her crucial work linking climate resilience with food safety standards. Additionally, she serves as a respected expert panelist with the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM-RI), helping to shape national food safety guidelines.

Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (HCU)
Thailand
Dr. Jonathan Rante Carreon is a highly accomplished academic and administrator, currently serving as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (HCU) in Thailand. He began his career as a registered medical technologist but later transitioned into academia, earning dual Ph.D. degrees in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics from Macquarie University in Australia and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi in Bangkok.
In his leadership role at HCU, Dr. Carreon drives initiatives related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on quality education, health, and global partnerships. He is instrumental in HCU’s efforts to provide affordable international skills training in health sciences throughout the ASEAN region. Prior to his time in Thailand, Dr. Carreon was a recipient of the prestigious United States Fulbright Scholarship Award. He taught at the University of Hawaii for sixteen years, where he also served as a program coordinator. Before that, he was a lecturer at the University of the Philippines Diliman and an associate of its Institute of Creative Writing.
Research and Publications: Dr. Carreon is a prolific researcher in communication, linguistics, and media studies, with a strong focus on the critical analysis of big data. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the HCU Journal of Health Sciences and an Associate Editor for the GEMA Online Journal of Language Studies.
Awards and Recognition: A recognized expert in his field, Dr. Carreon has won numerous accolades for his work in research, creative writing, education, and communication. He was named Best Speaker at the Three-Minute Thesis Speaking Competition in Australia and has served as an adjudicator for national debating championships in Thailand and the EU.
Community and Global Engagement: Dr. Carreon is actively involved in HCU’s community services, which provide free basic health, social, and legal aid. He frequently collaborates with other international institutions, signing memorandums of understanding (MOU) to foster global education and research partnerships.
Program Manager
Social Innovation Lab
Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany
Felix Endrejat is a highly specialized Program Manager and Consultant dedicated to driving systemic change through Social Innovation and organizational transformation. Currently serving as Program Manager at the Social Innovation Lab Freiburg, Felix leads high-impact, international collaborative projects and mentors a new generation of impact-driven founders.
Felix is the dedicated Program Manager for the major Interreg Project “Caring Communities,” a complex, multi-national initiative involving 25 partners across 10 European countries. In this role, he is responsible for designing the innovation curriculum and successfully establishing the first accelerator program of its kind in Germany focused specifically on the care sector. Beyond program management, Felix acts as a hands-on startup consultant and coach, focusing primarily on supporting social founders and mission-aligned social startups. His consulting work extends to established organizations navigating transformation, where he deploys a comprehensive toolkit of modern methodologies, including Design Thinking (co-creation, prototyping), Agile frameworks (Kanban), Sociocracy (for decentralized circle organizations), and Intrapreneurship programs. Felix’s background is rooted in combining rigorous political analysis with practical business acumen. His career path includes a tenure at Amazon Spain as an Account and Investigation Specialist, where he advised small and medium-sized enterprises worldwide. This experience honed his advanced analytical skills, change management expertise, and capability to operate effectively across multiple languages (German, English, Spanish, and French).
Before transitioning fully into the social sector, Felix was selected for the prestigious On Purpose Leadership Program in Berlin, a fellowship for young professionals committed to harnessing commercial thinking for social and environmental good. This program provided a “mini Social Enterprise MBA,” including intensive training, coaching, and two six-month placements at impact-focused organizations like TheGreenSpring and the Research Institute for the Economics of Education and Social Affairs (FiBS).
Academically, Felix holds dual Master of Arts degrees in Political Science from the University of Konstanz and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. His early academic interests focused on understanding and shaping politics and administration, which provided him with a strong foundation in political economy, management, and statistics as a core analytical instrument.
