"creating the barangay’s mission and finding its core values..."
Last June 20, 2024, Thursday, Barangay Pinsao Proper invited UB’s RIECO Team and Baguio’s City Planning, Development, and Sustainability Office to help form a comprehensive plan for their Barangay Development Planning. City Social Welfare and Development Office’s Ma’am Liza Balao actively facilitated the planning. Her mass knowledge on developing workplans made the design of the plans run smoothly. RIECO ‘s members namely, Ma’am Sittie Darimbang, Ma’am Michelle Chomayag, Ma’am Shayana Elipane, and Ma’am Diane Labay represented the University on its behalf.
The RIECO team contributed to creating the barangay’s mission and finding its core values. The barangay officials gave their best in contributing aspects of the barangay that would completely encapsulate the core values that they, as officials, have as well.
The programs that the barangay has are still a work in progress however foundations have been placed as to what programs are being finalized, and which programs would satisfy the elements such as a Healthy Place, Food with Resources, Economic with Opportunities, Security and Safety, and Accessibility. The programs to be implemented must benefit its constituents and the groups that the barangay has like the Persons With Disabilities or the PWDs, the Senior Citizens group, the Solo Parents, the Children’s Organization, the Youth Organization, the Women’s Organization, and Barangay Lupon.
UB’s programs are planned to collaborate and be aligned with the programs the barangay has made to avoid repetition. The programs planned by UB are both by RIECO and activities to be done by schools of the university. The programs are to gratify important sustainable development goals such as SDG 4, 10, 5, and the most carried out SDG is SDG 17. The partnership of the planning satisfied SDG 17, 8, 5, and 10.
One of the activities that was pleasantly highlighted was the participation of the Children’s Organization headed by Sir Gilian Uoiea Janiola who emphasized the inclusion of the children when it comes to being more immersed in promoting culture and traditions.
The Barangay Captain, Hon. Raymund C. Laxamana, thanked the people who came and helped construct the development plan. He warmly gave his appreciation to CSWDO and UB by giving importance to the inputs everyone had given throughout the planning stage. | Written and Photographed by Diane Labay
