"Empower students with fundamental understanding of intellectual property and enhancing their research skills through the use of statistical software"
The University of Baguio’s Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (RIECO) successfully held a webinar titled “Intellectual Property Rights and JAMOVI Application for Students” on September 14, 2024. The event was held virtually via Zoom and live-streamed on Facebook to accommodate additional attendees.
The said webinar aimed to equip students with valuable insights into intellectual property (IP) and enhance their research skills through the JAMOVI statistical software. The webinar was participated by over 900 students from various schools, faculties, and non-teaching staff from offices in the university. The webinar focused on two core areas: understanding the fundamentals of intellectual property rights and introducing the user-friendly JAMOVI platform, a tool essential for performing complex data analysis in research projects.
The session on IP, delivered by Engr. Jeanne Dugui-es Dangkeo of IPO-PHIL CAR, highlighted the importance of protecting one’s intellectual creations through patents, copyrights, and trademarks. A notable question from the attendees involved independent digital artists protecting their work from unauthorized commercial use, to which Engr. Dangkeo provided practical advice on enforcing IP rights. Mr. Miguel Xerxes Villacrusis also guided the participants through the basics of JAMOVI, virtually demonstrating its key features and explaining how it simplifies statistical analysis for student researchers.
Through this initiative, the University of Baguio continues to promote quality education (SDG 4) and strengthen partnerships (SDG 17), further enriching the academic growth of its students.
