True acts of service become most inspiring when they uplift communities in meaningful ways, reminding us that even the simplest gesture can ignite hope and joy in a child’s heart. This spirit was beautifully embodied on November 19, 2025, as the University of Baguio, through the Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (RIECO) Office led by Dr. Donnavila Marie Panday-Herbster, continued its compassionate mission through Part Two of the UB GIFTS initiative. Christmas gifts were thoughtfully delivered to 57 Day Care pupils of Barangay Pinsao Proper and 113 Kinder to Grade 2 learners of Lindawan Elementary School, each child receiving not just a package, but a reminder that they are cared for and remembered.
Each thoughtfully prepared gift pack, made possible through the generosity of the UB Management, UBAFI, MPA Students, and the ZIP Travel Philippines, contained coloring materials to inspire creativity and develop fine motor skills, along with healthy snacks such as apples and oranges to help boost the children’s immune systems. To further promote cleanliness and overall well-being, each child also received hygiene essentials, including soap and basic dental care items, reinforcing the importance of healthy habits from an early age. The joy on the children’s faces was unmistakable, eyes widening with excitement and hands eagerly exploring the colors, fruits, and hygiene goodies they found inside the gift bag. Even more heartwarming were the handwritten letters they shared, expressing their sincere gratitude. These tender messages captured the essence of the moment: that kindness, no matter how small, creates ripples of happiness that last far longer than the holiday itself.
This second part of UB GIFTS aligns strongly with the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals. By providing simple educational resources, nutritious snacks, and hygiene essentials, the initiative directly supported SDG 1 (No Poverty) by easing small yet significant needs of families and reducing the financial strain associated with school supplies, hygiene products, and daily snacks. Beyond addressing basic needs, the program also advanced SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by promoting healthier lifestyles and reinforcing proper hygiene habits among young children through the inclusion of fruits and dental essentials. At the same time, it contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by fostering creativity, enhancing learner engagement, and supporting developmental growth through accessible and age-appropriate learning materials. This initiative exemplifies how collaboration, shared responsibility, and a collective commitment to service can significantly enhance the well-being of children and uplift their communities.
As laughter filled the surroundings and heartfelt letters warmed every corner of the room, the deeper essence of UB GIFTS became vividly clear; “giving is not merely the act of offering something, it is the act of uplifting someone”. The University of Baguio remains unwavering in its commitment to nurturing young learners, empowering communities, and cultivating meaningful partnerships. Through UB GIFTS, UB continues to demonstrate that the most inspiring actions are driven by compassion, and that even the simplest gifts can ignite joy and hope that resonate long beyond the holiday season.
