University of Baguio Gives Back to Communities through Gifts of Wellness

“UB GIFTS: Care Beyond Giving…”

As part of this year’s UB GIFTS celebration, the University of Baguio showed that its “gifts” to the community go beyond material donations–they also come in the form of essential services that improve health and well-being. During the afternoon session, UB opened its doors to provide free medical and dental services, reinforcing its commitment to community health and supporting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. These free services were extended to the officials and functionaries of Barangay Pinsao Proper, the teachers of Lindawan Elementary School and Lindawan National High School, and the members of the Visually Impaired Positive and Progressive Dreamers (VIPPD).

The School of Nursing took the lead in offering preventive health screenings aimed to help participants understand their current health condition. Free health services were given such as vital signs assessment, height and weight assessment, as well as postural assessment, to detect early health concerns and guide them toward a healthier lifestyle.

Working alongside them, the School of Natural Sciences extended their medical services by providing complete blood count, urinalysis, blood typing, blood glucose testing, and medical consultations. These diagnostic services are crucial in identifying health risks that may otherwise go unnoticed especially among populations with limited access to laboratory testing.

At the UB Infirmary, the School of Dentistry delivered free dental consultations, teeth cleaning, and dental extractions to address oral health concerns that often remain unprioritized in many communities. By integrating dental care into this year’s celebration, UB emphasizes that community health is best approached holistically, addressing general physical health and oral wellness.

These medical and dental services align with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages. By providing free health services for the community, UB not only addresses immediate health needs but also empowers community members to take preventive measures for a healthier future. This initiative embodies the University’s commitment to giving back, transforming UB GIFTS into more than just a celebration–it becomes a tangible expression of care, service, and compassion with the community. Through these services, the University strengthens its role as a partner in fostering healthier, more resilient communities.
