University of Baguio Launches “UB Bikers with Allies: Season 4”

The University of Baguio, through its Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (RIECO), proudly presented the “UB BIKERS with AL.LIES: Season 4” alongside a Zumba Wellness Dance last April 18, 2026, as part of its continuing commitment to promote health, sustainability, and community engagement.
The event was successfully organized through the collaboration of the RIECO Office, Athletics, Security Office, Risk Management Office, and the School of Nursing. Dir. Jonel Sakiban, serving as the overall Race Director, oversaw the monitoring of all biker participants, while Dir. Jayton Anaen and Engr. Julia Florendo ensured the safety and security of everyone involved. Their efforts were further reinforced by the support of the Baguio City Police Office – Traffic Enforcement Unit and the CDRRMO. The event was also made possible through the generosity of sponsors, including the University of Baguio Alumni Foundation Inc., Janjodi for T-shirt printing, and Toto for the race bibs.
The biking event took place at the University of Baguio grounds, which brought together cyclists, fitness enthusiasts, students, alumni, and community members for a meaningful cause. The UB BIKERS had run its course with three previous seasons with an innovation of including the Al.L.I.E.S (Alumni, Leaders, IPs, Environmentalists and Students), each year highlighting the importance of active lifestyles while supporting partner communities.
The program officially began at 6:00 AM with the gunstart at the UB Terminal along Anacleto Street. Dr. Janice Kaylyn Lonogan opened the activity by warmly welcoming all participants, followed by Dr. Donnavila Marie Panday-Herbster, who highlighted the significance of the occasion. Mr. Jonel Sakiban, serving as Race Director, then oriented the biker participants on the 20-kilometer route, guiding more than 62 biking participants through the scenic areas of Baguio City.
At the same time, more than 100 participants joined the Zumba Wellness Dance at the UB Car Park along General Luna Road, led by students from the BPED STELA program. The session welcomed individuals of all ages to enjoy a lively and energetic workout that promoted physical fitness and overall well-being. As one of the event sponsors, Engr. Eleazer Demayo concluded the activity with inspiring closing remarks, underscoring its true purpose, not merely as a fundraising initiative, but as a meaningful avenue to encourage healthy lifestyles while fostering the spirit of helping, uplifting, and connecting communities.
This initiative strongly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by encouraging active lifestyles and promoting physical fitness among participants. It also supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, as the event fosters community engagement and promotes environmentally conscious activities such as cycling. Furthermore, the collaboration among th Al.L.I.E.S. and community members, and partner organizations reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the importance of collective action in achieving sustainable development.
More than just a fitness event, this initiative serves as a benefit project for partner communities, including Barangay Pinsao Proper, Barangay Naguey, and Barangay Pasdong in Atok, Benguet, as well as for Visually Impaired Positive and Progressive Dreamers group. Proceeds from the event will support outreach programs aimed at fostering inclusive development and improving quality of life.
