The University of Baguio continues to live up to its objective of enhancing the skills of students in undertaking scientific researches as the School of dentistry bagged awards in national and international competitions this year.
The study on “Use of Captioned Instructional Video as Oral Hygiene Instruction Aid for Hearing Impaired Students” took home the Gold Medal during the Southeast Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE)-GC Dental Asia Students Prevention Table Clinical Competition. The competition was held in Bali, Indonesia last August 12-13, 2015. The study was presented by Ms. Lyra N. Bawayan on behalf of her team mates: Jocel Maye Alicog, Jonie Rae Banania, Joyce Anne Maguiling, Dyan Sabiano, and Margie Kathrina Soriano.
The Country Winner during the National Competition by the International Association for Dental Research-Southeast Asia/DENSTPLY Student Clinician Program 2015 on July 23 was the study titled “Antimicrobial Effect of Malunggay-Ampalaya Extract with Honey on Streptoccoccus Mutans.” The same study was a finalist during the 29th IADR-SEA Division Annual Scientific Meeting/DENTSPLY Student Clinician Program in Bali, Indonesia last August 14-15, 2015. Ms. Thea Amira A. Corpuz presented the study on behalif of her team mates: Brenda D. Baguitan, Decere Joy M. Fang, Eduardo S. Ibañez Jr., Socette Joy M. Orduña, and Frenzel Mariz H. Solomon.
The “Healing Effects of Zingiber Officinale Root Tincture on Chronic Periodontitis” was awarded Second Place by the International Association for Dental Research-Southeast Asia Joseph Lister Awards in Oral Disease Prevention. The study was also a Finalist during the IADR-SEA Joseph Lister Awards in Oral Disease Prevention Poster Competition during the 29th IADR-SEA Division Annual Scientific Meeting in Bali, Indonesia on August 14-15. This was presented by Dorhel D. Quilaman. Other members of the group are Gabriel L. Bautista, Ervin D. de Vera, Diane Yvone P. Domondon, Guiseppe Aldene A. Hilotin, Yves Joshua P. Patrocinio, and Gabriel Malaya R. Zapata.
Winning Third Place in the International Association for Dental Research-South East Asia/DENTSPLY Student Clinician program 2015 was the study “Effectiveness of Vinegar, Hydrogen Peroxide and Commercial Mouthwash in Toothbrush Disinfection.” It was presented by Ms. Jelyne D. Kim on behalf of her team mates: Jillian Shannelle P. Andam, Tricia Anne D. Bascos, Eloysa P. Binonwangan, Joressa Joy B. Doria, Mae Anne M. Florencio, Clarence Dave P. Hill, and Reinaline T. Malinao.
