On April 16, 2016, R & DC hosted the seminar/ workshop entitled “Statistical Package for the Social Sciences at Work in Research”. Rooms D103 andD104 were used during the workshop. The seminar aims to give assistance to research students to understand and interpret the data obtained from their questionnaires. Eighty-three (83) research students from the School of Nursing, School of Dentistry, School of Natural Sciences, School of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, School of Business Administration and Accountancy and School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety were present to do a hands-on and detailed inputting of data through SPSS.
The speakers were Dr. Dyesebel L. Chinayo,one of the University’s statistician and a faculty member of the SNS, and Engr. Victor V. Hafalla Jr, SEA Faculty. Both are members of the University Research Board -Institutional Research Committee. They discussed the following topics: Introduction to Sampling and Designs, Inferential Statistics, Test on One and Two Sample Means, Chi-square Tests, Non-parametric Tests, and Inferential Statistics.
The SPSS seminar was interactive. The students were encouraged to raise their queries about the derived data from their research outputs. Most of the participants have brought their data so that the actual processing through the SPSS program can be utilized. The students were given the chance to practice and ask the speakers at the same time.
The students were pleased with the seminar and even requested a follow-up training for SPSS. | eev
