DOST Invention Competition and Exhibit

The department of Science and Technology Northern Luzon Cluster held its annual research and invention exhibit and competition at Robinson’s Mall, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte Last September 14-16, 2010.

The Invention Competition and Exhibit was collaborative activity of 3 regions specifically Region I, Region II, and CAR. There were 3 categories in which students and interested adult participants may join. One of which was the SIBOL category for high school students which was joined by individual and group researches. There were 44 research entries which were qualified for the semi-finals this year. The research paper, “The Effectiveness of Citrus nobilis, Citrus Grandis, and Foeniculum vulgare as Detoxifying Agents of Street Foods”, of April Joy Quirimit, a second year UB high school student, was chosen to be one of the semi-finalists.

April Joy and I, together with the UB Medical Technology Department contestants and adviser, left Baguio City at around 2:00 pm on September 13,2010 and arrived at Don Mariano Marcos State University at 10:00 pm of the same date. We had our registration in the said school before wqe proceed at Robinson’s Mall where the competition was held. We had to make our research project set-up before the competition proper, so, we stayed there until 12:00am. After which, we had to look for a place for us to stay and we were able to find a very fine place a hundred meters away from Robinson’s

During the first day of the competition(September 14), mApril Joy had her research defense with the judges and during the second and third days, elementary and high school students of near towns flooded Robinson’s just to view the research exhibits. In the afternoon of the last day(at around 4:00pm), the winners of the different categories were announced. The 3 winners (2 from Region II and 1 from CAR) of the SIBOL category will represent the Northern Luzon Cluster in the national competition.  | By: Margie S. De Vera – UB High School, faculty.
