SOD Research Presentations

Research culture abounds among the faculty and students of the School of Dentistry as evidenced by their research outputs which were presented nationally and internationally.  For the SY 2010-2011, four faculty and three student researches were presented nationally and one student research was presented internationally.  One faculty and one student research was also recently accepted for international presentation.

Four faculty members and three students presented their research posters at the Philippine Dental Association annual convention poster exhibit held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on October 19 to 24, 2010.  The following faculty members presented their researches: Dr. Grace C. Basuel (case report on Chlorhexidine Gluconate and MTA Apical Plug in the Treatment of Teeth with Open Apex Compounded by Periapical Lesion); Dr. Maria Lourdes E. Cantor (Impact of Dental Health Status on the Social Life of Young Adults); Dr. Joy Lane N. Cuntig (Social Impact of Denture Wearing among College Students); Dr. Genevieve A. Obille (Clinical Determination of Arch Form Design for Filipinos in Baguio).  The student presentors are as follows: Jalene D. Alip (The Effectiveness of Benzalkonium Chloride as a Dental Unit Waterline Disinfectant); Rachel Vice E. Juguilon who was represented by Maria Jennylyn A. Valdez (Enhancement of the Knowledge, Attitude, Behavior and Skills in Oral Health of the Visually Impaired Residential Students of an Organization for the Blind); and Michelle Y. Velasco (Improving the Oral Hygiene Performance of Hearing Impaired Children Using Oral Hygiene Instruction Through Sign Language).

The student research entitled “Preventive Self Care (Oral Hygiene) Enhancement Program for Female Inmates” was presented by Hazel Y. Santiago and her group in Taipei, Taiwan during the South East Asia Association for Dental Education and GC Company’s student clinician program competition.

Dr. Genevieve A. Obille and John N. Gonzales will represent the University in the 33rd  Asia Pacific Dental Congress on May 1 to 6, 2011 at the Philippine International Convention Center.  Dr. Obille was invited by the committee to present her poster on the “Clinical Determination of Arch Form Design for Filipinos in Baguio.”  Mr. Gonzales will present his poster on the study he conducted with his group entitled “Effectiveness of Different Antimicrobial Solutions in Disinfecting Contaminated Toothbrushes.”   This year’s theme is “Advancing the Pinnacles of Dental Health Care”. | By Dr. Grace Calixtro Basuel | Dr. Maria Lourdes Cantor | Dr. Genevieve A.
