University of Baguio Donates Educational Resources to Lubas Elementary School

“Collaborative action and thoughtful resource sharing can create lasting benefits for communities and contribute meaningfully to national and global development goals.”

The University of Baguio, through its Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach Office, strengthened its commitment to supporting communities in need through a donation activity with Lubas Elementary School. The initiative aimed to provide essential resources to the school, helping ensure that learners can participate more comfortably and effectively in the school’s ARAL-Reading Program.

In a communication letter dated November 24, 2025, Lubas Elementary School formally requested monoblock chairs and filing cabinets to better serve their learners, particularly those participating in the ARAL-Reading Program. This identified need arose from the shortage of seating and proper storage facilities necessary to support reading sessions and other school activities. In response to this request, the University of Baguio donated forty (40) monoblock chairs and twenty (20) filing cabinets, to help create a more conducive and organized learning environment for its students.

In addition to the items formally requested by the school, the University of Baguio also donated six (6) table tennis table boards to further support physical education classes, training sessions, and student recreation. This supplementary donation was intended to promote active and healthy lifestyles among learners, contributing to their holistic development beyond academics.

This activity highlights the importance of responding to educational needs of the communities. Through the provision of additional learning materials and support, UB helped create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, enabling students to actively engage in literacy development and other educational programs.

Moreover, the donation activity also demonstrates the value of institutional collaboration, aligning with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing learning opportunities, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by supporting learners with limited resources, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration between the University and the school. At its core, the donation drive exemplifies the positive impact that higher education institutions can have in addressing the educational needs of communities. Activities like this inspire both students and staff to value education and community support, while reinforcing the role of universities as agents of social development. Looking ahead, the University of Baguio aims to continue similar initiatives, exploring opportunities to support more schools, promote literacy programs, and empower learners to achieve their full potential. Such efforts demonstrate that collaborative action and thoughtful resource sharing can create lasting benefits for communities and contribute meaningfully to national and global development goals.
