University of Baguio strengthens partnership with Brgy. Pinsao Proper through active participation in barangay assembly

The University of Baguio reaffirmed its commitment to community engagement and social responsibility by actively participating in the General Assembly of Barangay Pinsao Proper, one of the university’s adopted communities. The assembly, which brought together residents and various government agencies, served as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and planning for the barangay’s continued development and welfare.

Representing the university were Dr. Donnavila Marie B. Panday-Herbster, Director of the Research, Innovation, Extension, and Community Outreach (RIECO) office; Dr. Ian Bandaay, Dean of the School of Dentistry; Dr. Arthur Baday, Chief of Clinics and Extension of the School of Dentistry; Ms. Sittie Al-meerah Darimban, Research Staff; and dedicated students from the School of Dentistry. Their presence underscored the university’s genuine dedication to fostering meaningful partnerships with the communities it serves.

A significant portion of the assembly was dedicated to updates from different government agencies invited by the barangay leadership. Representatives from the Social Security System, the Department of Labor and Employment, PhilHealth, and the Baguio City Police Office Station 2 shared important information and programs available to residents, ensuring that the community is well-informed about government services and support systems they can access.

The University of Baguio also took the opportunity to present comprehensive updates on the various activities it has implemented in Barangay Pinsao Proper through its different schools and departments. Dr. Panday-Herbster proudly reported the extensive range of programs that have been carried out in partnership with the community. These initiatives included health and wellness promotion activities where the university’s medical team conducted medical and dental missions complemented by legal consultations, providing holistic support to residents. The School of Engineering and Architecture facilitated a welding training program, equipping community members with valuable technical skills that can enhance their livelihood opportunities. Awareness sessions on teenage pregnancy were conducted to address pressing social concerns affecting the youth. At the same time, blood typing activities were organized in partnership with the Pinsao Health Center to promote health awareness and preparedness. The School of Nursing conducted Basic Life Support training, empowering residents with life-saving skills that can make a difference during emergencies. Dengue awareness sessions were also held to educate the community on the prevention and management of this common health threat. The School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management shared its expertise by conducting baking sessions for the women’s group, fostering entrepreneurship and community bonding. Additionally, the university library offered support for library beautification, recognizing the importance of learning spaces in community development.
