ABSTRACT

This research studied the factors that affect mothers’ compliance with the vaccination of their children aged 0-5 years old in Engineer’s Hill, Baguio City, and how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the mothers’ views towards the current vaccinations of the children. This study was limited to Filipino mothers at least 18 years old up to 45 years old and residents who have lived in Barangay Engineer’s Hill for at least one year. Using probability sampling, specifically the simple random sampling method, 64 respondents participated in the research. The researchers gathered data using the descriptive survey method with the use of survey questionnaires. The findings show that the mothers are highly compliant with their children’s vaccinations and strongly agree that vaccines are essential in preventing vaccine-preventable illnesses. The results showed that the children’s age bracket and the mothers’ educational achievement have no significant difference in vaccination compliance. The researchers also noted several factors to affect the mother’s compliance in vaccination, including the lack of credible health information, information that has negative connotations, and having read negative information in different media. The Covid-19 had influenced compliance to vaccination of the 11 mothers out of 64, while 53.1% refused the COVID-19 vaccine. The researchers suggest improved information dissemination regarding vaccines to mothers.
