Fourteen faculty researchers successfully presented their research outputs at the eighth Faculty Colloquium organized by the Research and Development Center last November 8, 2019, at the UB Centennial Hall and AVR.
The studies presented focused on institutional research, aimed at improving the policies of the university in response to the identified needs and behaviors of the students, faculty, and support groups.
Dr. Isagani Paddit presented his study entitled “Job Satisfaction of hospitality managers of the Department of Tourism accredited hotels in Baguio City,” to which Mr. Fernando Bagay from the SIHTM gave his reaction. Dr. Paddit’s study provides insights on the different levels of satisfaction of managers based on generational, economic, and workload factors, among others.
Ms. Josefa Cabuang shared her findings on the “Service quality of casual restaurants in Baguio City,” after which Mr. Miguel Villacrucis from STELA listed his comments about Baguio’s restaurant industry Baguio where many service providers are graduates of UB.
Giving an accreditation-related study, Ms. Ela Ong-Ongawan reported on “Challenges Encountered by Library Personnel with Patrons of a Higher Education Institution in the Cordillera Administrative Region: Basis for Improving Customer Relations,” on which the Head Librarian Mr. John Nigel Millare gave his feedback.
Reporting on a tracer study of UB’s topnotchers, Dr. Dyesebel Chinayo shared the findings of the “Profiling of board examination topnotchers in the university in their employment pathways.” Engr. Elisabeth Calub gave her reaction to the study, which provides useful insights on improving UB’s syllabi based on the reflection of graduates on their on-the-job training.
Dr. Kareen Leon presented “Internal control practices of a selected church organization,” which dwelt on mechanisms of auditing as methods of organizational management. Ms. Ma. Veneranda Campos from the SBAA gave her comments on the research.
UB’s sister university, Benguet Central University, was also present at the colloquium through the presentation of former Vice President for Academic Affairs and now VPAA of BCU, Dr. Perfecto M. Lopez of “Student services program of Baguio Central University.” Dr. Marivic Mutong, principal of UB High School, gave her feedback on the study.
Focused on accreditation-related research, the second round of the colloquium began with Dr. Jun Corpuz’s “A baseline study on the physical wellness of the University of Baguio Employee.” Commenting on the study, Dr. Esmeralda Gatchalian expressed hopes for a sustainable implementation of a wellness program in the university.
The next study focused on the School of Nursing with the study conducted by Mr. Elton John Delos Santos on the “Communication skills of nursing educators: Towards enhancement programs” for which Ms. Helen Alalag gave her reaction.
Arch. Divina Rillera followed the school-focused discussion by presenting her, Arch. Ryan Benaoe and Arch Cleofe Paran’s study “The architectural design studio in retrospect: Perspectives of the fifth-year students of the University of Baguio” to which Engr. Jeferd Saong gave his comments. The study explored what works and the areas of improvement in SEA’s design studio.
Also related to the SEA is Engr. Annalyn Soria, Engr. Demy Grabriel, and Engr. Marrisa Perdon’s “Determining the reverberation time of UB SEA classroom” which described the acoustics of certain SEA classrooms. Engr. Bernard Abaya noted the recommendations offered by the engineers based on their research.
A study on the “Stakeholders satisfaction on the UBLES school facilities” was reported by Ms. Alicia Viduya, Ms. Junalyn Penrad, and Ms. Mary Jane Wayang, to which Jacqueline Bonifacio addressed her reaction. The research identified areas of improvement in UBLES’ facilities.
Ms. Leny Estacio presented “A Study on resilience: A positive response to risk and adversity,” which provided insights on the mental health of Grade 11 SHS of UB at the time the study was conducted. Sharing the same role of catering to student’s concerns, Mr. Amado Orden from the Student Affairs gave his reaction to the study.
The second and third studies about the UB libraries were reported in the second cluster as well. Ms. Jenneth Antonio talked about her research, “Library users level of knowledge, utilization, and satisfaction of the UB library website.” Mr. Julius Simon from STELA reacted to the study and made suggestions for the digitization of some of the libraries’ holdings. Meanwhile, Ms. Teresa Villanueva from the SNS gave her feedback on Dr. Dyesebel Chinayo and Mr. John Millare’s study on the “Utilization and satisfaction of clients on the resources and services of the University of Baguio.”
Vice President for Administration Atty. Rommel P. Ayson said that the research studies made by the faculty serve as guidance to the executive committee who, in their decision-making, need the facts about the university.
