UB GIFTS Lecture Series 4 SDG 16: The PINSAO Project: A Collaborative Path to Sustainable Development

“This initiative is a pivotal component of the barangay’s ambitious three-year sustainable development program, aimed at addressing pressing community challenges and fostering long-term growth”

During the UB Gifts (Giving Inspiration, Fellowship, and True Service) event, Dr. Donnavila Marie Panday-Herbster joined forces with Barangay Pinsao officials to introduce and discuss the PINSAO Project. This initiative is a pivotal component of the barangay’s ambitious three-year sustainable development program, aimed at addressing pressing community challenges and fostering long-term growth.

Dr. Panday-Herbster provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s first-year initiatives during the event, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and community engagement. The presentation sparked meaningful dialogue with local officials, ensuring that the project’s goals align with the needs and aspirations of the community. The PINSAO Project is designed to empower Barangay Pinsao to achieve the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), a recognition of excellence in local governance.

The first-year initiatives focus on tackling urgent issues while laying a solid foundation for future development. Key areas of concern include waste management, limited access to medical services, excessive gadget use among children, mental health challenges, dengue outbreaks, peace and order, and gaps in livelihood and infrastructure. These issues were identified through comprehensive needs assessments conducted by RIECO, ensuring that the project addresses the most critical concerns of the community.

The success of the PINSAO Project’s first year hinges on the active cooperation of barangay officials, residents, and the University of Baguio. Community engagement will play a central role in implementing actionable programs that directly address the identified needs. By fostering a sense of shared responsibility and collaboration, the project aims to create a sustainable and inclusive future for Barangay Pinsao.

The PINSAO Project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 17: Partnership for Goals. This goal emphasizes the importance of making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable—objectives that are at the heart of the PINSAO Project’s mission.
