In pursuit of continuous improvement in educational practice and institutional performance, action research has emerged as a practical and empowering approach for educators and staff. Action research is a reflective process wherein practitioners systematically identify challenges in their work environment, collect and analyze data, and implement interventions aimed at improving outcomes. Unlike traditional academic research, action research is grounded in real-world contexts, making it highly relevant and immediately applicable to day-to-day operations in schools and institutions.
This seminar-workshop on action research is designed to capacitate basic education teachers, faculty members, and non-teaching staff in developing relevant and sustainable research initiatives that respond to actual needs within their work settings. It also seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice by engaging participants in identifying workplace-based issues, formulating research questions, and applying appropriate methodologies to generate data-driven solutions.
By embedding research into their professional routines, educators and staff not only enhance their own competencies but also contribute to a culture of inquiry, innovation, and accountability. This aligns with the University of Baguio’s Institutional Development Plan and supports global and national educational frameworks, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals).
Ultimately, action research fosters a sense of ownership and agency among educators and staff, enabling them to become change agents in their respective fields and ensuring that institutional practices remain responsive, inclusive, and evidence-based.
