The Commission on Higher Education Cordillera Administrative Region (CHED-CAR) and the Regional Development Council (RDC), in cooperation with the University of Baguio, conducted the Regional Research Colloquium 2018 at the Centennial Hall, University of Baguio, last January 26, 2018. This is the first time that a Regional Research Colloquium happened in CAR.
Dr. Esmerald M. Gatchallan (extreme left), the Vice President for Institutional and External Affairs of the University of Baguio, welcomed the participants to the University of Baguio. Dr. Milagros Rimand (2nd from left), the Regional Director of NEDA-CAR, gave a brief lecture on the Regional Research Agenda. Dr. Ma. Geraldine F. The colloquium was attended by faculty members, researchers, and students from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and private higher education institutions (HEIs) in CAR. The papers presented were clustered into four themes namely: Enhancing the social fabric (Malasakit), Inequality-reducing transformation (Pagbabago), Increasing growth and potential (Patuloy na pag-unlad), and Foundations for sustainable development. The four themes are aligned to NEDA’s AmBisyon Natin 2040. The papers were submitted to CHED and screened by NEDA as to appropriateness to the theme.
Faculty members from the University of Baguio served as the reactors to the papers presented.
Dr. Ma. Geraldine Casipit, OIC-Office of the Director IV, in her message, emphasized the importance of doing research not only among higher education institutions but among government employees as well. She pointed out the significance of using research data in formulating policies and guidelines. Dr. Milagros Rimando, the Regional Director of NEDA, discussed the Regional Research Agenda and presented the components of AmBisyon natin 2040. Dr. Emerita Fuerte, a Private Sector Representative (PSR) of the Cordillera Regional Development Council (RDC-CAR) and a member of the Autonomy IEC Speakers’ Bureau, discussed pertinent matters about autonomy and federalism.
Dr. Esmeralda Gatchallan, the Vice President for Institutional and External Affairs, and Rhoda Basco-Galangco, the Director of the Research and Development Center, were the focal persons in the University of Baguio for this activity.
