Partner school representatives from Baguio Central University, Cordillera Career Development College and King’s College of the Philippines came to join the Faculty Research Colloquium to present their papers and to react on the findings on March 4, 2017 at the Centennial Hall of the University. This year, for the first salvo of the colloquium, there were 12 papers presented.
Mr. Dennis Butag from the Cordillera Career Development Center presented his paper entitled “Status of the Security System in a Higher Institution in Benguet.” The findings show that the higher education institution is lax in the implementation of security regulations and the HEI is not strict when it comes to considering background check or investigation of applicants for vacant positions. Also, the researcher recommended that background investigation should be examined by the HEI’s human resource personnel and continuous training for the student marshals regarding safety protocols should be implemented.
Engr. Victor V. Hafalla, School Research Anchorperson of the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Baguio expounded on the teaching practices of Math teachers in his paper ”On the Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge among Tertiary Mathematics Educators of the University of Baguio.” Results indicated that males consistently garnered higher mean scores on all knowledge components but gender differences were only found to be present on the Pedagogical Knowledge (PK), and Content Knowledge (CK). Only Content Knowledge (CK), Technological- Content Knowledge (TCK) and Pedagogical-Content Knowledge (PCK) were found to be significant predictors of the respondents’ TPACK.
Ms. Thea Suaco and Mr. Antonio Mangaliag, faculty members of UB Science High School presented their paper” An Analysis of the antioxidant activity of Cassia alata and Bauhinia malabarica pods and seeds extract.” The study analyzed the potential of Cassia alata and Bauhinia malabarica’s pods, and seeds extract as possible antioxidants. The concentrations of C. alata and B. malabarica have the highest antioxidant activity as shown by its free radical scavenging ability.
Dr. Dempsey O. Depayso, the Dean of School of Criminology from Kings College of the Philippines presented his paper entitled “Contributory Factors to Criminology Board Examination Performance.” He identified five factors or practices that affect the performance of the criminology students in the board exams. These are the review classes, the mock board examination, implementation of school policies about discipline, the spiritual enhancement program and the lesson presentation and instructional skills of the teachers.
Dr. Dyesebel L. Chinayo, a member of the Institutional Research Committee and faculty member of School of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences of UB presented her research paper entitled “The Knowledge and Practices of Baguio City Jail Inmates on Personal Hygiene and Oral Care.” The research was a collaborative work with Ms. Helen Alalag, faculty member of School of Nursing. According to their findings, the inmates perceived themselves as very much knowledgeable on oral care and personal hygiene.However, knowledge is useless when not practiced due to lack of resources like personal care products and water.
Dr. Evelyn A. Cuis from Baguio Central University presented her findings from her research “ Enhancing the Literary Comprehension Skills of the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) English Major of Baguio Central University.” Dr. Cuis noted that various teaching-learning strategies are considered vital in the enhancement of literary comprehension skills and there are several situations and conditions that pose serious problems in the improvement of literary comprehension skills.
Dr. Cherry Lumidao, a faculty member from the School of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences of UB discussed the findings of her study on“Community Advancement through Responsive Extension Services of a Higher Educational Institution in Baguio City.” She found out that the program is effective in shaping individuals who were engaged in the outreach program. Also, the program helps the volunteers to improve human relations with other persons and that both beneficiaries and implementer were satisfied in the overall attainment of the objectives.
Dr. Florence T. Anaper from the Kings College of the Philippines discussed her findings about the “Sustainability of Sagada, Mountain Province as a Tourist Destination” expounded on the responsible, proactive decision making and innovation of Sagada as a tourism destination without sacrificing the community. The researcher noted that the Municipality of Sagada has the factors needed to sustain Sagada as a tourist destination along the four dimensions of environmental, economic, socio-cultural and political.
Ms. Marilou A. Dela Peña’s paper was about “Total Quality Management in the Classroom in Baguio Central University.”
Dr. Janice Kaylyn B. Lonogan, a member of the University Research Board and faculty member of the 
School of Allied Medical Sciences of UB presented the findings of her study “Quantifying Education: the UBMT Program Assessment.” The study has shown that majority of the BMLS/BSMT graduates of the University of Baguio perceived that the attainment of the objectives of the medical technology education and medical technology internship programs was very high. There was also a great accomplishment of the entry-level competencies of the BSMT/BMLS graduates and a great demonstration of core competencies derived from a benchmarking list for global preparations. Professional responsibility, professional laboratory skills and safe work practices, communication, teamwork and interactive skills, instrumentation and computer skills, leadership and management and teaching and training responsibilities are profoundly demonstrated by the interns.
Mr. 
Butch Diaz, from the Cordillera Career Development College, presented his paper “Assessment of the Management Information System of CCDC.” The E-MIS of CCDC E-MIS is a very useful tool both for admin users and staff. The E-MIS is reliable and at the same time dependable for records archiving.
Lastly, Dr. Marilou M. Saong, a member of the UB Research Board and faculty member of the School of Allied Medical Sciences discussed the findings of her paper entitled 
“Occupational Hazards and Risks Assessment of the University of Baguio Faculty Members and Employees.” The study was done in collaboration with Ms. Jaleh Gacayan and Mr. Clark Cian Marcelino. The researchers found out that the nature of work was a significant factor contributing to the level of hazards encountered by the employees. The researchers resolved that reduction of identified ergonomic, chemical and psychosocial hazards and maintenance of a safe and healthy workplace necessitates strong management commitment and high employee participation. –Edenveza Vidal-Catu
