Two entries of the University placed as first runner-up and second runner-up for the Outstanding Creative Research (Sibol) Award category to the
recently concluded Department of Science and Technology (DOST)- Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE ) Exhibit 2017. The DOST held the RICE on November 6-8, 2017 at the Baguio Convention Center, Gov. Pack Road, Baguio City with the theme, “Invention and Innovation for the People.”
Jan Adrian M. Cabiggat, Melva L. Cawid, Grace E. Labasen, John Carlo G. Galapon, and Dave Jon T. Pitok, students from the School of Engineering
won as first runner-up for their research project “Windmill as an Alternative Power Source: A Reinvention.” Their project uses windmill as one of the alternative sources to generate electricity with minimal cost. Engr. Romulos Amistad was the adviser of the researchers.
The second runner-up were Frenie May T. Butic, Shevanne C. Cabaling, Ellen Seal D. Guinolbay, Ashely
Marie E. Kato, and Godly Mae B. Malagayo, students from the School of Dentistry for their research, ”Effectiveness of Purple Sweet Potato Anthocyanin Extract as Saliva pH Indicator.” The researchers extracted the purple sweet potato (PSP) to come up with saliva pH indicator. According to the researchers, the PSP is cheaper and readily available compared to the pH paper strips. Dr. Belen W. Nievera was the adviser.
