ABSTRACT

The study looked into the present value and value system of the first and fourth year students in the College of Education and their ability to relate these to decision-making. The study first identified the prevailing type of values whether they are personal, economic, social, religious, or cultural in nature. The second part involved identifying the most predominant source of influence such as personal, parents and immediate family, relatives, friend and associates, the mass media, the internet, and other authorities such as religious leaders and teachers. Predominantly, the type of values students imbibed are more of those that has something to do with maintaining good social relationships and those of religious values. There was no significant difference as to the source of value influence, the family, particularly the parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends and other authorities are influential, though the fourth year college students recognize other sources of authority more than the first years do. Clearly, the Philippine society today is undergoing fast transformation in the socio-cultural aspect. The unprecedented constant development in the realm of communications and technology has thereby made some drastic adjustments as to how students live and relate to each other.
