ABSTRACT
In this highly competitive era, there is a tall order for academic institutions offering board courses like Medical Technology to reach the level of excellence in the board examinations. Board performance becomes an indicator of the quality of education that a university can offer. Hence, the College of Medical Technology of the University of Baguio has implemented strategies to improve its board performance. One of which is the policy of absolute 75. The objective of this study is to provide evidence as to the effectiveness of the said policy in improving the board exam rating of the college.This action research is a descriptive research designed to integrate ex-post facto method of research. Data on board performance from 2005 to 2009 were retrieved from the college registry and confirmed at the office of the Professional Regulation Commission. Other factors attributed to the success of board passers were also considered and were gathered through a guided interview. Responses from which were analyzed using the thematic approach.The results show that the level of performance as affected by the absolute 75 is excellent. Such a claim is further strengthened in the thematic analysis which showed that the same factors were attributed to the success of the board exam before and after the application of the policy. However, the researchers believe that it is possible for the college to elevate it to the upper limits of the excellent level. The administration can make use of this study as a basis for the continuance of the absolute 75 policy and formulate new policies to further improve the board rating. The agenda of these policies should consider not only the mental, but also the physical and social abilities and capabilities of the students. It is recommended that the college draft policies that develop the mental, physical and social wellbeing of students as a move towards strengthening the focus towards excellent board performance. The researchers also recommend the application of the absolute 75 policy across all colleges in the university.
