University and College Objectives: The Level of Attainment thru the Medical Technology Professional Subjects’ Objectives

Today’s student-centered learning strategy has ushered many educators into the realm of quandary as to what would be most appropriate to meet its demands. Coupled with the need to fulfill the vision, mission and objectives of the institution that binds student and teachers, the researchers find it necessary to take appropriate steps to find the missing link. This study aimed to bring to light the students’ point of view regarding the ability of the Medical Technology Professional Subjects’ Objectives to meet the University of Baguio and College of Medical Technology Professional Subjects’ Objectives. Findings show that there is a high level of attainment of the University and College Objectives vis-à-vis the Medical Technology Professional Subjects’ Objectives, with exception to the subjects Histology and Blood Banking which only showed a moderately high level of attainment of the University and College Objectives. In the same light, it was found out that the MTPSO did not address very strongly the UO 1c, UO 2, UO 3, UO 4, UO 5, CO 2, and CO 3. Consequently, these Objectives needed to be further emphasized in the MTPSO. The qualitative portion of the study revealed that the new format of the syllabi was preferred by the students in terms of content and usefulness in improving their study habits. But there is a need to review the format in order to meet certain demands as the page orientation and the length. From these results and conclusion, the researchers offered the following recommendations: 1) the Objectives of the Subjects Histology and Blood Banking be reviewed and revised to attune these with the University and College Objectives; 2) all Medical Technology Professional Subjects’ Objectives must also be reviewed to concretize the integration of Objectives that address UO 1c, UO 2, UO 3, UO 4, UO 5, CO 2, and CO 3; and 3) the syllabi be made available online for students to format according to their preference for the page orientation and length. They may also print it for themselves. Such a strategy is highly recommended for cost-effectiveness.
