ABSTRACT

There are many instructional strategies available for teachers to effectively implement in their classrooms.  The first strategy is the STAD, or Student Team Achievement Division, which is a common cooperative instructional method.   First, a pretest on the new material is given to each student.  Then, after the teacher introduces the material to be learned, worksheets are provided to team members.  Each student’s gain from the pre-test and the post-test was averaged to provide a team score.  Another strategy is Team Assisted Instruction (TAI) in which students are diagnostically assessed to determine their current levels of performance.  It was the major purpose of this research to investigate and evaluate the effects of STAD and TAI on the performance of anatomy and physiology students.   Findings reveal that the examination performance level of anatomy and physiology students (individual and team) in the pre-test, post-test and overall ranges from very poor to poor. There is a significant difference in the examination performance of the students  in the pre-test and post-test as revealed by the Simple Pairwise Comparison Test in which all the obtained value is higher than the table value at .05 level of significance. In sum, the study found out that there is a significant impact of STAD and TAI on the performance level of anatomy and physiology students.
