ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to develop and establish the reliability and validity of an instrument to measure students’ attitude towards college algebra. Participants consisted of 120 freshman college students from the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Nursing of the University of Baguio. The instrument is a 4-point Likert-scaled survey consisting of 3 subscales. The internal consistency using Cronbach’s coefficient alpha was 0.848 (good) for the enjoyment subscale, 0.837 (good) for the usefulness subscale and 0.744 (acceptable) for the confidence subscale. For the overall instrument using the 23 items prior to factor analysis , internal consistency reliability analysis reveals a Cronbach’s coefficient alpha of 0.906 interpreted as excellent.
