ABSTRACT
This study attempted to know the understanding of the nursing students regarding energy; their philosophical view on energy source and the perceived effects of energy and energy-driven things. This descriptive-survey study used a formulated questionnaire, floated to purposively selected 20 second year nursing students of the University of Baguio during the first semester of the school year 2006-2007. The respondents’ understandings were reflections of their experience or sensation and how they think. The respondents see that energy comes principally from God, with some contribution from man and partly from nature. These views follow the idea of Transcendentalism (50%) and Dualism (35%) and Naturalism (10%). The effects of energy were seen in science, culture, environment and humanity. Both positive and negative effects were noted. Taken as a whole, this study concludes that nursing students look at energy in a combined view as Triadism: that is, a three-pronged point of view: that God, man and nature are the sources and the protector of energy.
