Enhancing the University of Baguio as a Learning Organization

This study aimed to thresh out the characterization of the University of Baguio (UB) as a learning organization as a means to determine the areas for improvement. It is descriptive-correlational in nature, making use of a researcher-made questionnaire to determine how the university is doing in terms of its learning capabilities and leadership roles and activities. Nonreactive measures based on the balanced scorecard, specifically on the aspects of customer, internal business processes and learning and growth or processes, were gathered to determine indications of the learning organization in UB. Informal interviews were also conducted to obtain information to explain and corroborate the results. Weighted means, analysis of variance and Pearson’s were used to describe, analyze and interpret the data gathered. UB is moderately characterized by the indicators of a learning organization, signifying the need to be more evaluative and reflective of its processes and experiences. Nonreactive measures highlighted the findings and the need for continuous improvement. Enhanced learning capabilities for the institution would promote the leaders’ roles and activities in strengthening an atmosphere of learning and improving which would redound to the benefit of the students and the society.
