ABSTRACT
This study looked into the relevance of the English and History major curricula of the College of Education, University of Baguio. The respondents were the English and History majors who graduated from 2000-2004, passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), and are now teaching their major fields in high school, both private and public. Based on their responses, it was found out that content-wise, the subjects of both major fields are much relevant to the present job of the respondents and when they took the LET. However, there were perceived discrepancies in the subjects they learned from what they are teaching in high school. The History major curriculum has some subjects not pertinent to the Social Studies curriculum in high school. Similarly, the English major field is laden with literature subjects which are not also needed in teaching English subjects in high school. The methods they were exposed to were also deemed much relevant, specifically the inductive and deductive methods. The co-curricular activities they were engaged in are relevant and have prepared them for other functions aside from teaching. However, the Historical Society and the English Society have not actually given them additional experiences relative to their fields because of the inadequacy of activities of the two organizations.
