Abstract
The study measured the influence of identified factors on the awareness, usage, and the usefulness of e-databases among grade 12 senior high school students of the University of Baguio. A descriptive cross-sectional research, the study used a questionnaire to gather data from 742 (47%) of the grade 12 students from the four K12 strands: ABM, STEM, HUMSS, and TECHVOC/ SPORTS. The data collected were organized and analyzed using SPSS software. 83.83% of students were aware of the availability of the electronic library databases and moderately (M = 2.08, SD = 0.02) utilized them because they were useful (M = 2.58, SD = 0.05) for their academic needs. The K12 strand was significant to awareness (p < .05) but not utilization (p > .05). Further, strand affected the extent of the influence of the identified factors on the usage of the databases (p < .05). However, on the use of library databases, strand was only significant to EBSCO (p < .05). The utilization of the electronic databases was most influenced by the usefulness of the databases and least influenced by attitude. Since the Grade 12 students recognized the e-databases as “much useful,” almost all the respondents (about 94%) recommend the continued subscription to the library e-databases. Further, the respondents disclosed that the following hindered their utilization of the library databases: slow internet, unavailability of WIFI, un-operational password and link, limited information, and lack of technical know-how. The study’s findings can be the basis for the library’s improvement.
