Social preferences of SIHTM freshmen students on the use of murals in selected public areas in Baguio City

ABSTRACT

Murals are artworks of large paintings on the walls with the large range of artists and can find here in Baguio, and through art, we thought of making use of murals to beautify and promote the rich culture of Baguio City, and also showcase creative talents and prove our stand as Baguio is known as one of UNESCO‘s most creative city. This study is focused on the social preferences of SIHTM freshmen students on the use of murals in selected public areas in Baguio City with the moderator variable; their level of preference. It is determined under message, content, and theme. The study utilized a quantitative design method through a descriptive survey with a total of 247 respondents who are 1st -year students of BSTM and BSHM. The Pearson Chi-Square tests were used to interpret the items in the questionnaire. The researchers interpreted the results of the survey as answered by respondents. The findings showed that the students, regarding the permanent address BLIST or NON-BLIST residence of the respondents, are generally preferred of mural location. The finding shows that the respondents preferred the use of murals in the selected public areas in Baguio City. The researchers concluded that there is no significant difference in the level of preference for the use of murals in selected public areas in Baguio City. Therefore, the study will help the students to be aware and understand the meaning and uses of putting murals in showcasing the rich culture of Baguio City to be well-known to everyone.
