The days of manual tallying and computing are over. In the 21st century, quantitative data are handled best through a statistical test program that facilitates the organization and production of data output. The validity of conclusions arrived at rests primarily on the accuracy of interpretations that are results of accurate data. The accuracy lies heavily on the appropriateness of the statistical tool used and the accuracy of the computations.
The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) is designed to help researchers work on quantitative studies analysis and document their data output.
The University of Baguio (UB) recently purchased the IBM SPSS STATISTICS Base Campus Edition which is worth P1.5 million. The package provides the University with a perpetual license for 50 users/accounts. The newly acquired package is an addition to the existing single user account IBM SPSS software.
UB also availed of the two-day “IBM-SPSS Training for Researchers” free onsite training as part of the package.
The training was held last Jan. 11-12 at room C101. The trainer was Joseph Mythor Francisco, an IBM SPSS
specialist from the Strategic Research and Development Center, Inc. The training was attended by UB president Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista, who delivered the opening remarks; Dr. Janice Kaylyn Lonogan, UB’s vice president for academic affairs; University research anchorpersons; members of the UB Institutional Research Committee; University statisticians; research teachers; statistics teachers from the basic education department to the Graduate School; faculty researchers; principals from the high school and science high school departments; UB Research and Development Center Director and staff; and personnel from the Human Resource and Management Center and from the Center for Counseling and Student Welfare Office.
The new package will accommodate the research needs of the wider research community in the campus, catering to the increasing statistical needs of faculty and employee researchers and research students from basic education to the graduate school level.
The event was facilitated by the Research and Development Center.
