ABSTRACT
One of the major concerns of Higher Education Institutions in the Philippines is to develop and strengthen its research capability. It is a known fact that research permeates every facet of informed decision-making and that is why Institutions of Higher Learning place heavy emphasis on research activities. This study presents the research scenario of the University of Baguio . It was found out that to some extent, money or funding remains as the major constraint in accomplishing a research. Time is also a factor that deters the respondents from conducting research. By and large, there exists an evident positive attitude of faculty members towards research, as far as research activities are concerned. This is exhibited in the research output of the University. On the other hand, it was noted that the faculty-researchers’ graduate school degree, writing ability, working in group and substantial incentives helped them a lot in doing research. In the interim, it can be generally said that the quantity and quality of institutional/college/departmental researches have grown exponentially in a span of six years. In light of the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: (1) Research is a long-term process that requires positive attitude, motivation, competence, adequate time and resources to facilitate its accomplishment within the school system; (2) The indwelling of teaching and research in tandem is tacitly symbiotic, and premised on deloading faculty of their workload, appropriate incentives, budgeted funding and tangible administrative support for research in the Institution.
