From Voices to Vision: UB’s Path to Sustainable Community Development

Guided by this principle, the CUBE launched its Mobile Extension in Barangay Paoay, Atok, Benguet through a Wellness Promotion activity that simultaneously offered medical and dental services.
This initiative also served as a preparatory step for a Needs Assessment to be conducted in the barangays, which will identify the specific challenges, priorities, and aspirations of the residents.
The CUBE 3rd Quarterly Meeting held on November 29, 2025 at the Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) brought together VP’s, Directors, Faculty Members, Non-Teaching Personnel, and Exchange Student, to strengthen collaborative efforts in quality assurance, research, and community engagement.
As part of this year’s UB GIFTS celebration, the University of Baguio showed that its “gifts” to the community go beyond material donations–they also come in the form of essential services that improve health and well-being
True acts of service become most inspiring when they uplift communities in meaningful ways, reminding us that even the simplest gesture can ignite hope and joy in a child’s heart.
This commitment is most evident in UB’s strong push to eliminate single-use plastics, especially disposable cups. Recognizing that meaningful change begins with everyday habits, the University has transitioned to the use of reusable cups across campus events, offices, and student activities.

the PINSAO Project. This initiative is a pivotal component of the barangay’s ambitious three-
year sustainable development program, aimed at addressing pressing community challenges
and fostering long-term growth.
Understanding and responding to the needs of OSY is crucial, not just for the youth themselves, but also for the broader community
the collective duty of institutions and communities to advance equality, safeguard rights, and establish inclusive environments for everyone—particularly women, solo parents, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The lectures emphasized that the essence of community resilience and well-being is rooted in shared responsibility, exemplified by the unique Filipino value of Bayanihan—a tradition of collective effort and mutual support. Through this cultural practice, communities can work together to address health challenges and build a sustainable future.
“Service is not seasonal; kindness does not depend on festivities, but on intentions.” These words from University President Dr. Javier Herminio Bautista opened this year’s UB G.I.F.T.S. celebration with a powerful reminder that genuine service extends beyond occasions—it is a commitment rooted in purpose.

In a vibrant display of community spirit and academic celebration, the University of Baguio (UB) marked its 75th anniversary with a dynamic event held in Barangay Pinsao Proper on April 20, 2024 aimed to foster deeper ties with the local community while showcasing the institution’s commitment to education, outreach, and service.
At the heart of this partnership are the commitments made by key stakeholders. Honorable Raymund Laxamana, the Barangay Captain of Pinsao Proper, and Kagawad Karen Joy Calatan signed the MOA on behalf of the barangay, signifying their dedication to the partnership effort. Ms. Liza Balao, representing the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), also played an important role as the third-party signatory, strengthening the tripartite partnership.
